Gossip and Rumors For 1996

Lap GOSSIP, GOSSIP and MO' GOSSIP!

Hey! Heard any juicy LA strip club related gossip? E-mail me ASAP before it's not hot anymore. Stop watching those soap operas and talk shows and get your water cooler talk right here.

But remember why it's called gossip and rumors, and not news and facts.

Rhino Does the Shuffle
December 20, 1996

There is a rumor going around that the Rhino chain has now sold the Rhino in Upland and Santa Barbara. Neither of those clubs were making money for Rhino so that's not very surprising. However, more surprising is that they are about to open a nude club in the City of Industry. This area is already flooded with nude clubs. The current ETO is January 1997 but we all know how unpredictable these things are. The buzz is the old manager from the Oxnard Rhino will be heading up the new club in Industry.

In related news, it is further rumored that the Rhino chain will open clubs in San Diego and north of Santa Barbara.

Club 215 Spreads
December 19, 1996

Club 215 in Colton is planning on opening a nude club in Riverside. I don't have the scoop on the location but it sounds like it will be March 1997 before anything really happens. At least Riverside isn't really flooded with clubs like some other areas.

Club Glut - Mo' Clubs, Mo' Clubs, Mo' Clubs
November 1, 1996

As rumored previously, one of the owners of the Gentlemen's Club is opening a club in West LA. The current word is that they are planning the grand opening in November. I've seen their opening dates come and go but this time they are looking for employees. Perhaps just being optimistic again.

In related news, one of the owners of the Body Shop is opening another club (topless) in Reseda with a partner. This is currently a restaurant and work is underway to build the stage. The optimistic schedule is to open by mid November.

As reported earlier, Industrial Strip is opening Industrial Strip 2 near Glendale (technically in Los Angeles). This club is slated for opening in late November or early December and is 2-3 times larger than Industrial Strip. It is rumored that they have spent $900k on the club so far. They are getting close to closing a deal on the location for Industrial Strip 3 in the South Bay area (possibly in Torrance).

If that wasn't enough clubs opening, Pelican Theater is rumored to be opening in a few months in OC (Fullerton?).

Newport Beach Tries to Beach Mermaids
October 28, 1996

Reporter Admiral sends this story:

Newport Beach is deciding whether to shut down the club. Seems the girls are violating the 6 foot rule, touching the clients, etc., as well as having to post an attendant at the restroom. The city can't close them, per the Constitution, so they have to decide where to put them, as well as giving them a laundry list of things they CAN'T do (DUH!).

Earlier, there was an order that made the girls wear bikini bottoms and pasties, that Mermaids got overturned. The city manager expected the city council to vote the restaurant closed, but that Mermaids would counter with a lawsuit.

As a closing note, they mentioned that Costa Mesa had an interesting way of dealing with the problem of strip clubs. They said Costa Mesa designated South Coast Plaza as a zone ok for strip clubs. That way, it's up to the Segerstroms (the owners of S.C.P.) whether to allow that business to lease space.

Fish Prices Goes Up

Mermaid has increased their already outrageous $40 lap prices to $50. The increase goes straight to the owner and the dancer sees nothing. I thought with more and more clubs opening, prices would be coming down. So much for Econ 101.

Creamy News
October 17, 1996

As you may have already heard, after taking over the Gentlemen's Club in Pasadena, Mr. Bailey changed the name to Bailey's 20/Twenty. However, they are still bikini, fighting to be topless. Pasadena ain't gonna give up that easily.

In related news, Mr. Bailey is opening a club in Cabo San Lucas that will be upscale like Bailey's but will also feature nude dancing, lap dances and alcohol. The rumor is that it will open in mid November. Hmmm. Nude with alcohol. How much longer will we have to wait for this in LA?

Thirsty's Needs Water
October 8, 1996

In an unconfirmed report, Thirsty's had a fire and was closed for a short time. Strip clubs seems to be suspiciously prone to catching on fire. I guess the dances are so hot it causes sparks!

Mr. J's Moves On
September 28, 1996

CalifENGNR (TPFKA ENGNR1) reports the following:

The old owner of Mr. J's is opening a big nude club in Anaheim; it's going to be in the old Bally's Holiday fitness center, I think it's on Euclid. It will be interesting to see of any former Mr. J's dancers wind up there.

Mermaid Is Pregnant
September 27, 1996

One of my dedicated reporters tells me that Mermaid will open another one in January in Newport Beach but this one will be topless with alcohol. In the tradition of Mermaid 1, it will be upscale and expensive with good lookers.

Star Gardens Assimilated?
September 25, 1996

There is a rumor that Star Gardens has been bought by Rhino chain. Personally, I doubt it's Rhino that bought them but it has been bought by somebody and they have been on the chopping block for a while now.

Rhino News
September 25, 1996

Rhino in Fullerton (Woody's) went nude at the end of June to my disappointment. I was told not to tell anybody that it was the only alcohol club with full contact lap dances because they did not want to get busted. Then they go and get rid of their alcohol license and now they have been sold to some other people and the name has AGAIN been changed to Cherries. What's going on with this place?

In related news, Rhino in Realto was busted my the fire marshals and closed down for a bit but they are now opened again. They are trying to go alcohol here but as per usual LA BS, having problems.

Rhino has instituted a new "topless bartender" rule as well as new sexier uniforms for the waitresses. I'm not sure what this is all about. I've never liked the topless waitresses at Bob's either. I think it detracts from the dancers and personally, I don't want to see some of these waitresses with their clothes off.

Playtime Closes
September 17, 1996

Playtime has been bought by the previous owner of Sunset Strip and now has been closed for renovations. They will have their grand re-opening on Thursday, October 3 renamed as Strippers. How did they come up with such a clever name? These guys are marketing geniuses! They will continue to be topless with alcohol with lap and table dances added.

AB2579 DOA
September 15, 1996

From what I hear from Weston-ers and other sources (as well as the California State web site), AB2579 seems to be dead for now. Nothing stopping another do-gooder from trying to bring it back to life but like "Jason", it is underground for the time being.

In related news, Dr. Moreau reports that state AssEmblymen Scott Baugh's trial ended with a hung jury but the prosecution is still going after him. He's the nice clean-cut politician that brought this bill toe the state. Gotta love real life ironies. Check my Rants page to see a picture of this guy.

Fantasy Island is Pregnant
September 13, 1996

Fantasy Island is also looking to open another club in the near future. The location has been selected but I do not know where it is. I am guessing that it will be in a nice area of Los Angeles and probably bikini as well. This information comes from a reliable source. However, as you already know, just because you want to open another club doesn't mean you will.

Tropical Lei Harassed Again
August 27, 1996

Greyhare reports that according to some dancers at the Tropical Lei in Upland, they were raided again around Tuesday August 27. This time the girls were removed from the club placed in the bookstore and given a speech. The basics boil down to this, either the club hires the girls as employees and pays them a wage (This would place the dancers tips in the same category as a waitress, TAXABLE) the other choice was for each girl to get her own business license. It would probably not be easy as those permits fees are based on how much money they make. And as a business they would have to file business taxes, and report profits and losses. I feel this is another attempt to strangle the club out of existence.

This seems to be the general trend right now for trying to close down strip clubs. There is a very real battle regarding Independent Contractor status versus employee status. This battle is not going away anytime soon and will continue to plague many clubs all over the country. The IRS has already made their position clear: Go Employee status or we're gonna getcha!

Industrial Is Pregnant
August 21, 1996

There is a rumor that Industrial Strip is getting ready to open another club. I know that they were seeking more investors and I must assume that they got more money. I know the owner is very aggressively seeking locations for even more clubs to open. The location of the new club has not been revealed to me but I am guessing that it is south east from their current location, possibly near downtown or north of downtown Los Angeles.

Bare's After Hour Folly
August 11, 1996

Dr. Moreau reports the following:
As I told you before [Bare Elegance was] seeking an exception to the city ordinance that governs they're business hours. It seems that legal stuff is on hold because the attorney [Weston] handling the case is also representing Deja Vu and you can imagine is quite busy at the moment. It also seems that the Hawthorne City Attorney verbally granted them the exception, but because of the the Bare's attorney's case load they haven't gotten that engraved in stone. Since it is an election year the CA may be on his way out so the Bare is playing it cautiously because he may have just said ok because he doesn't give a damn or his replacement might rule otherwise.

Tropical Lei Busted For Tax Evasion?
August 9, 1996

Greyhare reports that Tropical Lei was raided tonight at about 7pm by state agencies and assisted by Upland police. Lap Dog reports that the club was shut down for state tax evasion. TL has re-opened its doors the following week. Since the bust was not related to nasty dances, the nasty factor has not been affected by this incident.

Mr. Hoop repots:
Turns out that on Friday, 8/9/96 at about 7:45p.m. city & state folks walked into the place and demanded that the operators immediately produce employment records, proof of worker's compensation insurance, and any other official information they could request. Try producing this on the spot at your place of business. They couldn't produce it 'till Monday 8/12 so the place was closed until then.

The Gentlemen's Club Goes West
July 31, 1996

One of the owners of the Gentlemen's Club has joined another owner in attempting to open a nude club in West Los Angeles. The building has not been touched on the outside but the inside has been worked on. It is located near Bundy and Missouri and would be the only nude club in that area. The word is that the city is fighting tooth and nail to keep it from opening.

Deja Vu (NH) Goes Nasty
July 31, 1996

Mr. Kats reports that the dancers at Deja Vu (North Hollywood) misses the big bucks they were making before the bust and have decided to ignore the new rules and go nasty once again. From reports that I have from vice, this might not be a good idea. They claim that they are going to persist in busting DJV dancers.

Body Shop Bought and Closed
July 26, 1996

The owners of the Gentlemen's Club has bought and closed the Body Shop. They will be re-opening it soon but I don't know the gory details. The Body Shop has not been doing really well for some time. They'd better figure out a new venue or the great location is going to be wasted. At the minimum, they can force the dancers at the Gentlemen's Club to work there. That would be a good start.

Hawaii Theater Bought
July 24, 1996

GreyHare reports that Hawaii Theater in the city of Industry has been bought by the owners of Tropical Lei and dancers are being moved around.

Time's Up at The Bare
July 23, 1996

Dr. Moreau reports that the Bare Elegance can't stay open past 2am on Fridays and Saturdays anymore because of a city ordinance. This does not sound right to me and a dancer at the Jet told me that they did that to bring some business to the Jet (same owner). I don't know what the real reason is but they are definitely closed at 2am.

Lap Price Changes
July 16, 1996

It may have been because of the busts, but Industrial and Bob's has lowered their lap prices to $20. Deja Vu has raised it from $15 to$20 (as did Rhino -Oxnard a while ago).

Nude Busts
July 13, 1996

Rumor has it that dancers at both Industrial and Deja Vu has been busted. The rumor from Industrial is that one of the dancers was stick shifting an undercover vice cop and he put the brakes on her. Dancers at Deja Vu were told to do no contact laps until things cool down. I told you it wasn't going to last forever.

Fight For Your Right to Go Clubbin'
June 17, 1996

Last week, all the big LA and San Diego strip club owners got together in one room to talk about and get ready to fight CA AB2579 which is pending in the senate (see my Rants). This meeting was organized by none other than John Weston's law firm which represents just about anybody and everybody that's big in the strip club and porno business.

At the top of the list of strip club owners: Deja Vu. Other LA clubs represented were: Bare, Jet, Valley Ball, Sahara chain, Spearmint Rhino chain, TJ's, Bob's Classy Lady, Sam's Hof Brau, Star Strip, Star Strip 2,Seventh Veil, Crazy Girls and Fantasy Island, Paradise Showgirls, Sports Club, Captain Cream, and Sandraella's.

Clubs that are specifically not with John Weston's law firm are: The Gentlemen's Club, Sunset Strip, and Industrial Strip. Each of these clubs have a specific reason for not being with this lawfirm.

Tropical Lei Busted Again
May 29, 1996

A dancer at Tropical Lei was busted by a vice cop. They are always busted right before summer to cool things down before it gets really hot. This year was no exception. It will be cool for just a little while but will heat up fast. Just wait and see.

Cameras Roll at The Bare Elegance
May 16, 1996

Dr. Moreau reports:

The Bare Elegance was close during day last Tuesday (7 May) for filming a cable movie with Harvey Keitel. Also tonight at 10pm Channel 7 (I'm Witless News?) cameras will be poking their Polyphemus eyes around this "gentlemen's club" which will air on May 20. The management wanted all the girls working the night of the taping to wear evening gowns to make the place look more classy. So much for reality in a news program.

New Mr. J's is History?
May 8, 1996

The Admiral reports that the new Mr. J's got their liquor license revoked for 30 days for serving a minor and might be closing.

Mermaid Steps Away
May 7, 1996

Ljakab reports:

The rumor says that Mermaid in OC has to change it's dance policies back to the 6 inch distance or the will be shut down. Personally I think if they impose the 6" distance AND keep the $40/dance price it will be dead anyway.

Resurrection of Bailey's Twenty/20
May 6, 1996

The owner of Captain Creams is currently in escrow on a "fabulous location" in the West LA area. "Projections are that the purchase will be complete within 60 days. The city has already agreed to let the venue become topless."

I have gotten this from 2 sources now, so this is probably true. I'm not surprised about a good location, but amazing he found a location to be able to go topless so fast. Not an easy task in WLA. No doubt Mr. W had a big hand in this situation.

If he re-opens this clubs as 20/20, I'm sure many of the old customers will return and so will the dancers who made pretty good money there from the Century City agents and attorneys. This could spell trouble for Fantasy Island. The fantasy of being a hot club might be over for them.

Cream Over Sports Club
May 6, 1996

In related news, the owner of Captain Creams is taking over the Pasadena Sports Club for Gentlemen. The club will "under go some needed aesthetic and personnel changes and will be in the topless business within a very short time."

This is an interesting rumor (which has not been confirmed yet), because I was under the impression that the Sports Club lost their law suit against Pasadena to go topless. Somehow, their lawyers must have pulled a fast one over the city. If they go topless, I predict this club will be one of the hottest clubs in LA. That area has no clubs and is starved for that type of entertainment.

Bare Elegance Improves Environment
May 3, 1996

Dr. Moreau reports:

Well, they just finished landscaping the new parking lot annex (used to be a Chevron station and more recently a dirt lot on the corner of Imperial and Inglewood--rumor has it Chevron still owns the property and the BE has to lease the land from the oil giants-a case of gougers gouging a gouger, plus they had to pay for environmental cleanup which is why it just sat as a dirt lot for over a year).

TCFKA Cave Becomes Hollywood Cabaret
May 1, 1996

As of today, The Cave in Hollywood becomes known as Hollywood Cabaret. I will refer to it as TCFKA (the club formally known as) Cave. Upon a quick drive-by, they have cleaned up the joint but unfortunately, they were not able to move the building to a better location. I guess, once a cave, always a cave.

There is still no parking in that area and it's a little scary to walk too far. They still have movies and dancers like before but now they've added peep show booths. In case you're interested, they are at:

6315 Hollywood Blvd. near Vine Street.
(213) 465-3208
Sun - Thr: 12noon - 2am, Fri- Sat: 12noon- 4am
$8 cover

Legs Tries to Walk Again
May 1, 1996

According to the May Issue of Private Dancer, Legs in Wilmington is trying to re-open by pretending to be a union hall. Under California labor laws, they can periodically have "parties" which in this case will include nude dancers. The only question is, how often are they allowed to have these union meetings? "Hey honey. I've got another union meeting tonight!"

Tropical Lei Goes on the Information Highway
April 28, 1996

As more and more clubs get their own web site, Reader Samurai reports:

One of the dancers told me tonight that the TL has/will have it's own Web site. It will have pictures, as she was asked whether she wanted her picture on it (she was uncertain, as she has another job). I don't know the URL, so hopefully we'll here from an ASSCer soon.

7th Veil and Star Strip Runs Scared
April 25, 1996

My informants, I mean, reporters have told me that the 7th Veil has discontinued their lap dancing for now because of Vice scares. The Star Strip VIP room continues their shenanigans but no nude laps for the time being. You can still get topless laps with pretty good mileage and full song grinding but don't expect the crazy stuff anymore.

Fritz Does Contest Too
April 22, 1996

Everybody and his strip club is doing contests now. Reader Hot Toddy reports:

Beginning Monday April 22, Fritz That's It will be having a weekly "topless dance contest". Total prize money is $500 with first prize getting $250! Should add a little spice to the typical Fritz night.

Ecstasy Jacks Up Prices
April 18, 1996

Ecstasy Club has raised their bed dance prices from $40 to $50, making it the most expensive dance in Southern California (not including modeling studios). They now have their dances in a private room so much more goes on. Thus breaking the nasty factor thru the roof.

Personally, for $50 a pop, I want to be in a private room... in my house... with video cameras rolling.

Cheetah's in Hollywood Sold
April 16, 1996

Cheetah's has been sold to the ex-owner of Sunset Strip for an undisclosed amount. Sources say that the club was sold for a very low sum because the owner was not able to make payments to the landlord. The land that this club is on is still owned by the owner of the Star Strip who sold the club several months ago.

In related news, Cheetah's is now advertising in the LA Weekly with the large word "NEW" on it. The ad is a little vague regarding the dancers so it may not be topless. If you are interested, their phone number is (213) 660-6733 and they are located at 4600 Hollywood Blvd. near Vermont. Another lovely location for a club. I would suggest a Glock here.

The last time I was at this location, they were building the stage and it looked a little funky. However, I've been told that some of the more crazier dancers from Crazy Girls have moved there so any Rockers needing support from dancers might want to check this out.

Son of The Gentlemen's Club
April 14, 1996

According to sources close to Z Bone, one of the owners of The Gentlemen's Club is getting ready to open another club (possibly in the Valley). This owner owns Aftershock, which is a regular dance club advertised heavily on KIIS FM 102.7 radio. It has been rumored that he is not making money on this club and wants to do something about it. My source has seen the blueprints for the new club but does not know the exact location.

It will be very interesting to see if the other owner of The Gentlemen's Club will allow his brother to take employees and dancers from their joint owned club to the new club. If he allows this to happen, The Gentlemen's Club may suffer some damage.

Industrial Sucks More Money
April 12, 1996

Sources close to Industrial Strip have told Z Bone that they have taken on a new investor after nearly running out of cash. I hope this investor knows what he's getting into.

The competition in that area has become red hot since Deja Vu opened their doors in January. Industrial seems to have unlimited funds for advertising with up to 3 simultaneous billboards up which probably costs around $10k per billboard per month.

I don't know about the rest of you but I think they should spend a little less on advertising and a little more on their sign on their building which looks like it cost about $50.

Sunset Strip Sold to Russians
April 10, 1996

As of the end of March, Sunset Strip has been sold by the three owners to a group of Russians for an undisclosed amount. The two brothers that owned the original Aladdin club are now looking to buy or open a club in Vegas. Good luck.

So far, it doesn't look like much has changed at Sunset Strip except for some of the employees leaving with the owners. Unfortunately for the new owners, it's still in the same location.

Bare Owners Needs a Drink
April 5, 1996

The owners of Bare Elegance (Jet, Ball) are looking for another strip club to purchase which serves alcohol. If you have such a club in a good location and would like to sell it, contact them at their club. It's interesting that they want to buy one after selling Fun House recently. With all the competition near the Valley Ball, I'm sure that club is not doing very well so maybe it's time to trade in the old for new.

Star Strip Opens VIP Room
April 3, 1996

As of a this week or so, Star Strip has opened their VIP room. This room is in the back of the club to the left of the bathroom next to the exit door. The dancer has to tip the club $10 per dance but can charge whatever she likes. Most of the dancers are charging $30 but some are charging $50 per song. If you pick the right girl, you will get one hell of a dance in there. It's you and the dancer without anybody else.

Rhino Revs Down Contest
March 17, 1996

March 21, 1996 will be the last weekly dance contest for Spearmint Rhino. They have had progressively less contestants each week so they will now have it just once a month on a Tuesday. For a Z Bone's inside view of their contest, look at my Diary.

Star Strip VIP Room
March 16, 1996

It seems like everybody and his brother wants to open a VIP room. Star Strip is getting very close to opening theirs. It's located to the left of the women's restroom in the back of the club (right next to the back exit).

The laps there has been getting progressively nastier there. You can get full song grinds to completion with the right girl (not hard to find). I can only imagine what will go on in a private room for laps. If the floater doesn't go into the room with you, it's going to be a free-for-all.

The Gentlemen's Club Wannabe Contest
March 10, 1996

The owner of the Gentlemen's Club told me that he will be putting ads in the paper for a dance contest on Mondays to start in about 2-3 weeks. First prize will be $500 (like Industrial and Rhino), winner take all. There will be a grand final contest later on for $2000. Since they told me they would have a VIP room by now and I see no signs of it, I'm not holding my breath on this one. I'll believe it when I see it. And maybe not even then.

Billboards Galore
March 10, 1996

One of my readers reminded me about the Holiday and Miss Kitty's billboards along the 605 and also told me about a new one that the Sahara 3 has off the 60 freeway near Fullerton road. Full sized billboards in good locations are about $10k a month. Either business is good or the competition is really heating up. It's war baby.

Girls of the Internet
March 8, 1996

Tyler from the Gentlemen's Club told me that she is in a Playboy video called "Girls of the Internet". She plays a college law student who gets a wild hair up her butt and dances in the law library. Yeah. Happens all the time. I've been known to get up on the conference table during meetings and strut my bad ass. They don't call me Z Bone for nothin'.

I haven't seen it yet but I guess the girls really have nothing to do with the Internet.

New Bondage Ride At Jet Strip
February 26, 1996

Mr. X's partner in crime, Phil reports on the Jet Strip Bondage action:

There's a new attraction you should be aware of at the Jet Strip. I've checked the other web-sites and nobody seems to know about it yet: Bondage Dances. Yes, you heard me. Two of the table dance booths along the wall by the entrance have been converted for the purpose into "Bondage booths."

You go in, your wrists get strapped to chains with velcro, so you're standing with your hands raised. The dancer of your choosing then proceeds to torture you in the most delectable ways. At $30 a whack, it's a bit pricy (compare $20 for table or couch). It's sort of like the couch dance, except you're standing up, and she doesn't have to put on a more modest bottom than her g-string. You and she are both standing at the same height, so it's more a tactile experience than a visual one. They will probably have to lower their prices when the novelty wears off, because it isn't 50% more than what you get in a couch dance, and it is less comfortable. $25 might be a little more reasonable.

Bear in mind this is based on limited exposure. I had two dances from Danielle, a very kinky dancer who really enjoys the torment she puts me through. I kind of like it too. Other dancers may not necessarily have the same style, so their bondage dances may not be as good (or may be better). Tastes vary of course, but I wasn't the only one indulging.

I don't know how much the dancer keeps. They might be converting the other two booths on the same wall to bondage booths - No chair, no stool, no door, just a curtain of plastic chains.

The Jet Strip had, for a very brief time - like 2-3 weeks, "V.I.P. chair dances." for $25. They were exactly the same as the couch dances, except the chairs were more plush and comfortable. They didn't catch on. They were pretty much the same as the chair dances at Bare (which are also $25 now, inflation sucks!).

Those bondage dances can be pretty nasty. A need for further research is definitely indicated. Let us know if you concur with my findings.

Phil

Rhino Charges Back
February 21, 1996

Spearmint Rhino is rising back from the dead. The owners have brought back the manager and he is ready to duke it out. They will start having amateur dance contests from March 7, 1996 at 9:00pm. The first prize is $500 (same as Industrial) and a few lucky audience members will be the judges. Hmmm. I wonder how badly the dancers are going to want to win?

They are also planning on having features there. I don't know how often or on what nights they will do this. Tropical Lei was not able to keep having features every week. Rhino is just as small so there might be a problem. Many features command a lot of money which can only be paid out if the club charges a big cover, can hold a lot of customers or just loses money. I'll keep my eyes open on this one and report back.

Tropical Lei Enters 1984
February 13, 1996

I received the following e-mail regarding cameras at Tropical Lei. Many clubs (Bare Elegance, The Gentlemen's Club, Industrial Strip) have cameras watching the girls. They claim that this is for the customer's protection in case something happens. Sure.

Jhause writes:

Some friends went to Tropical Lei, and all of the better girls were gone. A dancer they recognized told them cameras were now in the back, and the girls were being monitored. She said most of them had gone to Deja Vu.

Fun House Busted
February 12, 1996

According to Lapmerich (via e-mail), Fun House was busted last week and the hot dances there have gone cold.

According to an ABC cop, they are "sweeping" LA from OC up thru LA, busting all the alcohol joints. So far, they've hit Sunset Strip and the others listed below.

Sam's Busted Again
February 8, 1996

Sam's Hof Brau have been busted for being too close with topless girls. They are supposed to be bikini until they decide what to do next. If they want to go topless, they will have to make the stage bigger to allow for the 6 feet rule (customers must be 6 feet from dancer). Otherwise, they will have to be happy with bikini. The only other choice is to go NUDE with no alcohol. Any votes?

Fritz Goes Dry
February 8, 1995

Fritz is dry for 15 days according to an ABC cop. They will start serving alcohol again on February 20, 1996.

February 6, 1996

One of my readers sent me e-mail telling me that Fritz was busted recently and now is not allowed to serve alcohol for 2 more weeks. If so, this must make it close to the warning limit. Once a club hits the magic number of warnings, they lose their alcohol license and can never get it back. Fritz sure wouldn't be the good 'ole Fritz without booze.

Industrial Goes Industrial Strength
February 4, 1996

There is a rumor circulating that Industrial is trying to open 2 clubs. One club in the City of Industry (how appropriate), and another one in Los Angeles (near Glendale?). There's plenty of competition in the City of Industry and Glendale, but they have never been shy about competition. Maybe the billboards work afterall.

The Gentlemen's Club Gets Ready to Lap
January 29, 1996

By March 1, 1996, The Gentlemen's Club will expand it's facilities (use up the little parking space they have now) to allow a separate area for laps. This is good news to lappers in LA but probably bad news to some of the dancers there. Other than Century, this is one of the few nude clubs left in LA where laps where not done.

7th Veil Buys Land
January 16, 1996

There are rumors that the owner of the 7th Veil (Star Strip, Star Strip Too, Crazy Girls) has made arrangements to purchase the land that the 7th Veil is on, along with the commercial building next to it, the parking lot behind it, and the apartment complex behind the parking lot.

The same owner already owns a house on Detroit nearby. Pretty soon, he'll own the entire block. I guess there won't be any more complaints from the tenants in the apartment complex about noise from the clubs anymore. Smart move. The only bad news is that there are no good looking dancers there anymore.

Spearmint Rhino's Manager Quits
January 13, 1996

After having some disagreements with his boss, the manager at Rhino has turned in his resignation. This is too bad because he was really trying hard to make this a nice club and had some good marketing ideas. All of Rhino's best dancers have left the club recently and now with this defection, I don't think I need to be going there anymore.

Sam's Hof Brau Tries Again
January 8, 1996

After being closed down on December 20, 1995, Sam's Hof Brau is once again open with topless (pasties) dancers. The owner tells me that the problems have been taken care of and they will stay open this time. Being closed has hurt their business and some dancers have defected.

Tropical Lei Has Fire Sale?
January 5, 1996

Remember when Star Strip's closed suddenly because Don didn't renew his lease? Then there was a mysterious fire? There's a rumor going around that Tropical Lei's 5 year lease will run out at the end of January. Will the lease be renewed? If not, I hope they have a great "Going Out of Business" fire sale. I'll be first in line for the two for one, $5 nude lap dances!

Lap Dog (a new reporter) contributed to this gossip. He's becoming more active now.
