Nude Club Flesh

From Michael <not@deathsdoor.com>
August 6, 1999

Review of new club, Club Flesh (San Bernardino).

The Quick and Dirty: Reopening of former club, The Rocket, but now nude dancing and no booze. NO cover, as of this date. Same owners as Tropical Lei (Upland) and Hawaii Theatre (Industry). Large club space. Nice arrangement of furniture. Same couches as TL, but they have a foot rail. Well lit and music isn't too loud. VERY few dancers. Mileage is extremely variable. Recommendation: Give it a little time.

In Depth (damn long!)

Physical Description: One large room, square about 60' to the side. Entrance is through hallway and enters club in NW corner. DJ booth is SW corner. Bar is on your left when you walk in. Dressing room is behind it . Stage is about 10' diameter circle in the center of the club. Stage has four pole equally spaced around the edge. The stage is surrounded by a tip rail with those annoying little stools. Entertainingly enough, the management was required to make the whole club wheelchair accessible, including the stage. So the three foot walkway between the stage and tip rail goes around the stage 180 degrees in a ramp. Hard to believe until you see it. Really annoys the dancers. Couches run around all walls not occupied by bar or DJ booth. Couches are booth style (TL) with drink seperators, no privacy. Lighting in the club is fairly bright and the music is not overly loud. You can actually hold a conversation without shouting.

Dancers: Few and far between. TL has been sending dancer over, by hook or by crook. There are a few dancers that work only here, but they leave a little to be desired. I was shanghaid to the club by two dancers from TL and met another one at the club. They seemed to be the only ones making any money.

Customers: Very few. I was there on a Thursday night from about 8pm to Midnight. There might have been a total of twenty customers all that time. There were twice as many dancers as customers the entire time night. I was told that this was a fairly common night.

Mileage: YMMV as always. TL dancers have been getting there regulars to stop by if they are working. Locals don't seem to have discovered the club yet. Those few that do come in bring little to no money with them. If you want a place where buying a few dances will make you very popular, THIS is the place.

Recommendation: Club needs some time to get going. The owners are doing there best to get talent to work the club. They are not charging a cover at the moment. They are taking no cut out of the dances. There is no minimum number of drinks for the dancers, so no "Buy the Lady a Drink" pressure. All they need to do is turn down the lights a little and get a few more quality dancers. Sounds easy but I doubt it is so. I will check it out again in about a month or so.
