[Bodysurfer]-->There are too many professional dominants in the world!!! If you want a submissive, you're just out of luck.

Are there any clubs that allow spanking, bondage, role playing, and that sort of thing in Los Angeles or San Diego? Anyone who works individually? I'd love some guidance here.

[GreenDog]-->Kinky much?

Okay, at the risk of revealing WAAAAAY too much about myself here, I'll field this question.

While there are many professional "players" who operate independently, most, as you correctly guessed, work as dominants/"tops". Frankly, there's more demand for it. Fortunately, there are a couple of reputable professional dungeons in the L.A. area that employ submissives and/or switches: Lady Laura's in the West Los Angeles area and The Chateau in the San Fernando Valley. The modeling club Eros Station has a dungeon as well, but I don't believe they employ any "bottoms".

Rags like L.A. WEEKLY have an alternative section that might help you hook up with amateur players. Also, there is an excellent BDSM education club/organization in the area that you can find listed in the back of the highly recommended "how to" books SM101 (by Jay Wiseman) or SCREW THE ROSES, SEND ME THE THORNS (by Philip Miller and Molly Devon). I won't mention the club by name here, but its meaning has something to do with crossing through a doorway. (I'm sure you can figure it out from there.) It's a great place to learn how to hurt someone just right . . . without actually damaging them. It's possible that you can meet some submissive play partners at one of their quarterly parties. (However, like nudist colonies, the club welcomes all consenting adults of various ages, body shapes and sizes, so be forewarned.)

In Silver Lake, across the street from Circus of Books, I think there's still a small store named something like "Magick & Fetish Shop". The proprietress gives monthly tutorials on how to administer a spanking, among other topics.

On Saturday nights at Club 7969, there's Sin-A-Matic, a dance club that has a back room with a live BDSM show. Unfortunately, it's generally limited to whomever the male and female dominants, Aryn and Shaydee, want to pull up on stage. The L.A. WEEKLY will also list some fetish fashion balls/dances, but those are mostly for people who like to wear (cool?)(hot?) leather or latex outfits. In other words, posers.

If you want to dress the part, your best bet for shopping is still along Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. There you'll find BDSM stores like Dream Dresser, Whiplash, 665, Pleasure Chest, etc. However, most players know that a tack store (where you buy equestrian supplies) is a great source for riding crops and stuff like that. A really great (and relatively inexpensive) source of equipment is the internet site, The Stockroom (former JT's Toys). Actually, almost every business I mentioned above has its own web site.

Good luck, and remember: Sometimes, you have to be cruel to be kind.
