***MAY OFFEND*** Literally, black, and conversationally, a black person, or African American. This term is believed to be derogatory to blacks. Almost akin to the N-Word. But IMHO, it depends on how you use it. If you say, "What a stupid shfartza", then you might as well use the N-Word, if you are so inclined. But if you say, "the shafartzas have come a long way since slavery," then, IMHO, I do not think it is used in a bad way, simply because there is no other way to refer to blacks. Because of the controversy over this term, I do not use it myself, and others on this board agree. I would not use it to refer to blacks, but you may hear it so I included it.
