As you walk in, to the right is a pool table and to the left is a big
room with the big screen TV that is also the girls' seating area. Just
across the room by the bar is the area where you hang out waiting for a
girl. The place doesn't seem to have great air conditioning.
Parking is a problem. There is no parking lot, only street parking.
There is no ATM close by, so get your money beforehand. The closest one
for now is the 7-11, about a mile away.
The girls don't have clock numbers, so it might be tricky to identify
them. When you clock them in, you get a domino-like marker to identify
them. The girls buy themselves a drink when you clock them in, but you
don't have to buy a drink for yourself, and I didn't see any waitresses
serving drinks upstairs.
The couch room, upstairs, could have been more dimly lit, IMO. As it
was it was easy to see what everyone else in the room was doing from
just about any vantage point. There were only a few couches that might
provide some opportunity for some fun, if not for the lighting and
security guard. Their pricing schedule is posted on the wall beneath the
clock in the bar area. There were also a couple of small placards with
the same information on the counter. They list the prices as follows:
20 minutes - $15 (= $0.75/minute!)
30 minutes - $18 (= $0.60/minute)
45 minutes - $25 (= $0.56/minute)
1 hour - $27 (= $0.45/minute)
Someone on the Yahoo group mentioned the $15 minimum, which only got
you a half hour. That works out to $0.30/minute. Now it seems you don't
even get that. This schedule almost forces you to keep a girl for the
full hour if you really want to get your money's worth; otherwise you
get screwed. It makes the cost of even a 10-minute "test
drive" prohibitive. As far as I'm concerned, this sliding-scale
price schedule is screwy and will greatly deter me from frequenting
Smokey's as long as it's in place.
The Baldwin Park PD has been mounting a harassment campaign against
the club almost since it opened. It has been raided several times
already, and both customers and hostesses have been arrested for lewd
conduct. Someone in city government obviously has it in for the club.
Reportedly one of the BP police officers told one of the girls that the
harassment would continue until they shut the place down.
