Well, I guess the saying "Never say never"
is true here. I said a club could never be opened in Beverly Hills. How about
a topless club in the heart of Beverly Hills, 1 store from Starbucks, one
block from Rodeo Drive? Park in the Beverly Hills parking structure or on
the street. There is a doorman who will unhook the velvet rope as you walk
downstairs to a greeting table. The cover has been reduced down to $5 from
$25 when they first opened. This is where you will first notice that this
club is owned by Deja Vu by the Showgirl Magazines and flyers on the greeting
table. As you walk past the glass door entrance to the club, you will notice
that all the bouncers/floaters are wearing coats and ties.
The DJ booth is at the entry way to the club. The DJ is able to see into
the club and see who is entering the club at the same time. The booth contains
a full selection of what I assume are club CDs.
To the right is the dining area with 2 booths, 8 tables and a full bar. The
$40 entrees include Lamb, NY steak, Veal, Chicken, Swordfish and Salmon,
and a dancer can sit and dine with you like in the Denver and Houston clubs.
They use cloth napkins and the meals do really look as good as any good
restaurant and is not the strip club type of food. And don't worry about
charging the dinner to your credit card. Even AMEX is accepted, and the charge
will appear as "Beverly Club" on your statement.
To the left of the entry way is the main lounge area with a bar and stage.
There are 3 booths and 10 tables in this area. The stage is currently a
micro-stage with a pole, only changed the day after their grand opening on
September 18. The rumor is that this will be replaced with a larger stage.
Further past the main lounge area is the Executive lounge. This area contains
3 couches and 14 plush chairs where $25 chair dances are performed. The dancer
keeps $15 but the floaters are not really keeping track right now. This will
change in the future as the club gets busier. Since my visit, they are now
doing 2 for $25 chair dances.
To the right of this area is the VIP room which contains another micro stage.
The ceiling is too low for a dancer to climb very high on the single pole
on this stage. Moreover, the railing for the stair to go onto the stage intrudes
too far onto the stage and a dancer will probably eventually hit her head
or leg on it. The entire club is very dark, especially for Deja Vu standards
but this room especially has some really dark corners in the booths. There
are 7 booths, and 18 tables including micro tables around the stage area.
Currently, the circular stage is barely 6 feet across and therefore does
not meet the ABC 6 feet law since the customer is able to walk right up to
the dancer while she is topless. Beverly Hills may have an exemption but
in LA County, all the stages must have ramps or a handicap elevator, which
was not present.
Once seated, a waitress took our order for the drinks. Since my last visit,
the drink prices have been lowered from $7 to $2. All domestic beers and
well-drinks are only $2 all the time. Fair price for this 'hood. However,
amazingly, she returns with the drinks but no napkins or coasters. When I
was at the dining area, the bar had black paper napkins. I can only guess
that the waitress was not trained to bring a napkin with the drink. For Beverly
Hills, this doesn't seem like the type of service to expect.
The next time I realized that this is indeed a Deja Vu was when they had
the usual Blue Light special with 2 for 1s. It seemed somewhat awkward that
this classy Beverly Hills strip club had a K-Mart like special.
On Friday night, there were 17 dancers and all were over the Z threshold
and some were real lookers. Keep in mind that when Deja Vu opens a new club,
all the dancers are transported from their other clubs and this one is not
the exception. Dancers from San Francisco, San Diego, LA and Ontario were
at the club. Deja Vu pays for the flight and gives them rooms to stay in.
Currently, there are no stage fees but that will be changing as soon as the
club starts to pick up. The dressing room is behind the VIP stage area but
I am told is not very large. I assume space is at a premium in a Beverly
Hills location.
Deja Vu has imported Angel Veil from their San Francisco club. She is an
exotic looking beauty and is worth the trip to the club just to see her flow
on stage. Unfortunately, she will not be staying at this club forever, but
catch her before she returns to SF.
SUMMARY:
As with all new clubs, things are not settled yet. This can be good or bad
news depending on what type of customer you are. If you don't know what I'm
talking about here, you are not the right type of customer and you don't
have to worry about it. I am going to make a prediction that this club will
become the #1 club in LA and will eventually replace the old 20/20 in Century
city. Expect to see some real lookers here in the future.
