Jacklyn's Review of Blue Zebra

Blue ZebraNight I Danced at Blue Zebra:
September 2001 (Sunday)

General Manager on For That Night:
John. Real big shot. Liked to boss the girls around a lot and tell them to get back to work. No resting allowed. Since the club makes money off your every move, there is no resting allowed.

Nudity:
Total nudity.

Drinks Served:
Soda, bottled water, around $5.00 a drink.

Cover Charge:
$5.00.

Atmosphere of Club:
Dark and neon. Very difficult to see anything. The décor of the club is kind of cool. It’s got Zebra striped carpeting. There is a lot of potential for this club to be great, but, they are very busy taking money from the dancers. That’s too much of a hustle.

Dressing Rooms:
Quality was decent. Typical. Lockers for girls that work there 3 to 4 nights a week. You have to bring your own trunk if you don’t work there steady.

Feature Dancers:
Sometimes. Once a month to once every other month.

Quality of House Girls:
The girls were very nice. Good attitudes. The quality ranged from 6 to 10’s.

Stage Dancing:
You do two songs. 2 minutes each. Not a minute over. There is actually good money on the stage, but, the DJ and General Manager won’t let you get to it. They want you off that stage to make money lap dancing, where they are going to get a piece of it. When you make tips on stage, you keep it, so they wouldn’t want you staying up there too long. Plus, the songs are 2 minutes for the rest of the girls lap dancing. They want you to get on to the next lap dance so they make money.

Lap Dancing:
$15 for topless ($5 goes to the club), $30 for nude ($12 goes to the club). The lap dances are 2 minutes long. If I was going to get one of my regulars to come see me for lap dances, this would not be the place to do it.

Club Features or Specials:
2 for the price of one lap dance. Or a ‘long song’ lap dance. I think the ‘long song’ lap dance lasts about 30 to 45 seconds longer than the 2 minute lap dance.

What I Paid To Work There:
I paid a total of $136 to work at this club.
$99 in lap dances.
$10 to the house.
$10 to DJ.
$10 to General Manger (First club I had ever worked where I paid the general manager's salary!).
$ 7 to the doorman .
This is all required. I was told the house fee is just $10. But, here’s what it really is. $10 to the house, $5 for each topless dance, $12 for each nude dance, $1 to the General Manager for every dance, $1 to the DJ for every dance, $.50 cents to the door man for every dance.

Show Me The Money:
I came home with $147. If I worked 6 hours, that would be $24.50 per hour.
$136 tipout is 48% of gross.

My opinion:
As a consumer or dancer, this club sucks. You are going to get ripped off at this club. They don’t sell booze, so, they have to make money on the dancers. Therefore, the dancers have to hustle you to go home with an amount worth dancing for. I would have gone home with more money if I didn’t really hate ripping people off. They counted that I had done more dances than I had actually done.

When they would cut the music, if a guy had just bought 2 nude dances from me ($60) I would go into the 3rd song a little bit. I felt like I was ripping the guy off if I didn’t. Well, the doorman would count this as a dance, and I would get charged $12 for the song, when I didn’t even do a dance. When I told this to the General Manager, his exact words were, “So?”. This tells me the club could give a fuck about the girls that work there. It was more worth it for the club to keep that $12 than for them to give it to the dancer that had just worked her ass off all night long.
