What is this ZChat anyway?
This is just a fun way to cyber-talk with other readers of this
website. You may already be familiar with other chat rooms on other
websites or IRC. Basically, you enter the virtual "room" and type in your
comments. Others in the room will see the comments that you have typed.
Then, they can type in their comments for you to see.
Although this is similar to the Bulletin Board, your comments are only
on the screen and once they scroll off, they are gone. Therefore, if you
want to pose questions or make comments to be available for others to see
forever, use the Bulletin Board. However, a chat room is more
interactive and you can get your response immediately.
What do I need to ZChat?
You must have a browser that allows Java applets to run and you must
have this feature activated. The latest versions of the browsers available
from Microsoft, Firefox and Netscape for the PC and MAC are all compatible
to ZChat. Older versions and the UNIX versions of these browsers may not
work properly with ZChat. Use them at your own risk.
If you do not have Java, you can get the latest version from
java.com. Follow the
instructions on their website to install the Java interpreter so that your
browser can use it. There's also an option there to check to see if
you have the latest version.
What can I talk about?
You can talk about anything you feel like. Although this website is
about strip clubs, you may talk about any topic you feel like. However,
there are some rules of conduct for ZChat to
prevent users from making it difficult for others to enjoy their time
here. Please follow these rules or a moderator will force you to
leave ZChat. If I get complaints regarding your behavior, we will 86 you
from ZChat.
How do I make those smilies?
You mean this?
These are called emoticons, or some people here call them z-moticons or
zemoticons. They are the same ones that can be used in the bulletin
board, reader review board and forums.
To answer your question, you can see a partial list
here. There are other cool stuff in
ZChat but you'll have to find it yourself.
How do I start chatting?
From the main screen, type in your nickname or handle, then
press the "Login" button and wait for the login to proceed. Note that your
registered name from the bulletin board or reader review board is not
recognized in this area.
The first time you use this Java applet, your operating system (e.g.
Windows XP) may request that you give permission to load and execute this
Java applet. Proceed by giving permission and the applet will load
onto your computer.
Once you enter, the names of the people who are already chatting are
shown on the right side. Next, you will then see a screen with comments of
others and a text entry section on the bottom of the screen. Type in your
comments in this text entry field and press the "Enter" key on the
keyboard.
When you are finished chatting, type /quit or press the
"Logout" button to return to the ZChat main login screen. To return to the
Z Bone table of contents, click the "Home" icon on the upper right or
lower right corner of the screen.
I'm getting errors. What do I do?
There are several reasons why you might be having problems. One
possibility is that your browser does not support Java applications. In
this case, you must upgrade to the latest version of your browser.
If you have Java support turned off, you must turn it on.
Also, if you get errors when you try to login, there may be other
factors involved, including running out of memory. Also, it's
possible that the IRC chat server is down and cannot accept any
connections. In this case, please wait and try again later.
How do I register my name?
Once you are logged in, type the command:
/NICKSERV REGISTER password youremail
at the bottom where you type your messages. This will register your
current nickname using the password and email address that you have
specified. An email will be sent to you with instructions on how to
complete your registration process. Follow the instructions to
complete.
I forgot my password. Can you give it to me?
No. I have no record of your password. You can register another name
and use that one until the old name expires from non-usage in 21 days.
How do I change my password?
After you login, type the following command:
/NICKSERV SET PASSWORD newpassword
I have a new email address. Do I have to register a new name?
No. You can simply update your email address. After you login, type the
command:
/NICKSERV SET CONTACT newemail
When are dancers and others in your chat room?
During the week, most people login at about 3pm and sometimes there
will be a post on the bulletin board under the topic "Announcements"
regarding a time when people will be chatting.
How do I change the topic?
You must be assigned privileges to be able to change the topic. Type in
the command:
/TOPIC newtopic
The topic will appear in the main screen chat screen at the top.
No. And before you ask, "Why not?", because you can screw up the entire
screen and it's not implemented in the Java code.
Can I send bold faced text?
Yes. Click on the tiny bold "a" to the right of the text entry area.
Click this same button again to turn off bold text. Click on the
tiny underlined "a" for underlined text. You can also change the
color of the text by using the small color boxes to the right on these
buttons. Note that if you use white (the same color as the
background), you will not be able to see any text and it will appear as if
the chat room is not working.
By this, I assume you mean when you say "hi", s/he does not respond
back to you. This could be because of several reasons. Perhaps the chatter
is simply lurking and does not want to talk, or they are away from their
computer.
Yes. To do so, set your IRC application to use the server at:
irc.webmaster.com:6667
Then type:
/join #zchat
This is now the 4th version of ZChat and uses the PJIRC open source java applet client.
A shout-out and thanks goes to Stradawg who found the PJIRC site and created
the initial version of this 3rd version, and Bishop^ who gave me some ideas
and also moderates the chat room.
