[Z_Bone]-->Century Lounge near the airport is rumored to be closed because of slow business. If anybody can confirm, please post here.
[saxbeat]--> I saw this mentioned on another forum. Wow... the end of "Live Nude Nudes." I thought this place would survive a nuclear war.
Rumor is, they closed due to the down economy, but I don't believe it. I'm guessing the owner got an offer for the land that he couldn't refuse. In the next year, I'd guess we will see a new Ralph's, a new Trump hotel, or a parking lot. Or maybe a Spearmint Rhino. Anyone who can't make a profit from a club located so near to the airport is a moron.
[lopaw]-->For now, it's still open. Was there last night. Rumor has it that the club will close around August timeframe. The club is no longer open in the daytime - weekdays open @ 5pm, and weekends @ 6pm.
Enjoy this "haven of upselling" while you can, before it becomes a fast food joint or another airport parking structure.
[Ten4]-->Good riddance. This place hasn't been any good since they lost their liquor license. Though they have had some memorably hot girls from time to time . . . Anyway, the most notable thing about the club is their infamous sign, and even that has changed: At its all time ironic and unintentionally hilarious best, it was "Nude Nudes Plus Liquor."
[saxbeat]--> Hey 10! Good to see you. I never knew Century had liquor. I wonder if anyone has kept a list of the different iterations of the sign. Didn't they change it to something that offended passers-by a couple of years ago? That's hard to do in L.A.
[Z]--> Wow. 10 & Sax in the same post. By the time I started going to Century, they had just put the alcohol in a separate room and you had to leave your drink in the room when you came back to the nude area. I knew that wasn't going to last very long. I didn't go for a while, then on the next trip, they didn't have that room any more.
I agree with Ten4. It had a great location for tourists but never offered me anything that I wanted. Good-Bye "Nude Nudes."
[Benn]--> I remember that for a period of time, this club became a nude theater. They had regular theater seats and nude shows. They didnt serve drinks at all, but a customer could go next door to the bowling alley and down a few and then come back in. They charged admission to the place, but since there was no tip rail I could never figure out how the girls made any money (they didnt mingle at all) Sometimes I would come to this place after a visit to The Borerline Saloon or Wild Goose just to sober up. Either that or eat the 25 cent hot dogs, that the Goose offered. |
